Victoria Armet is working toward her MA in Creative Writing and Publishing at City, University of London. She loves reading, writing, scouring the internet for inspiration, watching the dumbest movies she can find, and eating chocolate.
Despite having a clear idea of who she is, Victoria has no idea where life is going to take her. While traveling the world is the ideal, a job is required to earn the cash to take said trips. As she puts off becoming a real adult for as long as she can, Victoria is striving to figure out how she fits within the world. Everything matters, and yet nothing does.
If you would like to read more from Victoria, check out her posts on the Her Campus website here or her posts for her internship here!

my hometown was the only official u.s. government safe haven during the holocaust
You read that right. There was only one official U.S. Government safe haven during the holocaust. Only one place that was taking in refugees. It wasn’t even allowed to take in Jewish refugees, choosing instead to hand pick them in order to not stir the pot with the anti-Semitic sentiment that was forming within the U.S. and only taking in 1,000 people at that. If… Read more Continue reading my hometown was the only official u.s. government safe haven during the holocaust

why you need to just submit your story
My non-fiction creative writing professor was quite adamant that as writers we would need to submit our work, not just stare at it until we hated it. Although we were rather upset about the fact that this meant that we had to sit in the classroom having a collective breakdown while trying to figure out what possible publications would even read our work, it was… Read more Continue reading why you need to just submit your story

importance of late night walks
During the summer the days can become very warm and humid, making enjoying the outdoors much harder than it should be. With that, the best times to wander the outdoors is when night starts to set in. For my family, we have an ice cream shop on the lake about three miles away. It’s nice to go down, usually driving the first part due to… Read more Continue reading importance of late night walks

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim is my most recent read. It is based in Chinese folktale, Charles Perrault’s “Donkeyskin,” and Norweigan fairytale that all comes together to create a spellbinding story of trial and love. The story follows Maia, an experienced seamstress who enters a competition to become the royal tailor by cutting her hair and pretending to be her brother who has been… Read more Continue reading tournaments and trials book review

how to use social media to promote your brand/blog
As a writing intern for a small company, I recently realized that I may actually have some skills when it comes to promoting a brand/blog. There are small things that I have noticed over time that may not always be the answer but they will definitely get your name out there and will help bring in readers from more places than you could expect. Some… Read more Continue reading how to use social media to promote your brand/blog

a new obsession: jane austen
This semester I took a course called Politics and Literature where I was introduced to the works of Jane Austen in an entirely different light than they are usually presented. We read Pride and Prejudice and discussed what statements it was making about society at the time. It was filled with humor and sarcasm, plus it had a main character who is wholly wonderful while… Read more Continue reading a new obsession: jane austen

as twist as old as time
Last night, I read the entirety of As Old As Time by Liz Braswell between midnight and 3:30 in the morning because once I started it there was no way I was going to bed. It’s part of her twisted series that takes the fairy tales we grew up with and adds a twist to it. Previously, I have read Once Upon a Dream which… Read more Continue reading as twist as old as time

moments that made me self conscious this week
I try my hardest to pretend like I’m okay with my body. It’s something I wish to perfect, but everytime I start to come close another thing sets me off and I’m uncomfortable all over again. A never ending cycle of self deprication and overthinking that makes me wish I would just stop eating altogether. Here are the most recent moments that resonated with me.… Read more Continue reading moments that made me self conscious this week

“someone great” is something great
A recent addition to the Netflix original films is “Someone Great”. It’s a film that follows Jenny Young (Gina Rodriguez) when her nine year relationship ends following the news of receiving her dream job across the country and the antics she gets into with her two best friends. There’s heartbreak, love, and pure friendship that drives everyone into the lowest pits of despair and back.… Read more Continue reading “someone great” is something great
